MC6 PRO Relay Ports: Control Non-MIDI Devices

Updated: Sep 4

You know that we love MIDI and it's great, but what about devices that don’t have MIDI but offer external control via control ports? There are many fantastic pieces of gear like that. The 3 most common types of such gear are:

  1. Amps with foot switch ports for switching channels or turning effects on/off

  2. Delay pedals with control ports for external tap tempo

  3. Pedals that allow you to switch modes or recall presets via a remote foot switch

The goal is to incorporate these non-MIDI devices with the rest of your MIDI gear and control them all together. With two built-in Relay Ports, the MC6 PRO allows you to do just that.

Relay Ports on the MC6 PRO give you the ability to perform relay switching, which is a simple and effective method used by many devices to offer additional external control. It works with just a switch opening and closing.

We've made our Relay Ports TRS so you have the option to close the Tip, Ring or Both, offering you up to 3 different combinations. This makes the Relay Ports compatible with all devices that support relay switching control, whether they only require the Tip or Ring to be used, and also if they require both.

To provide a clear demonstration of how this works in real-world scenarios, we use the MC6 PRO to control the Fender Princeton amp, Boss DD-8 and JHS Morning Glory (all are non-MIDI devices).

You can send MIDI messages and perform relay switching simultaneously with a single switch press, giving you total control over your entire rig of MIDI-capable and non-MIDI devices. Check out the video below to witness the MC6 PRO Relay Port capabilities and learn how to use them.
