Hey guys! Totally new to midi controllers and just received mine today! Wondering if anyone knew of any videos or tutorials showing the basics of programming the MC6 to work and utilize Meris pedals? I have 3 of them and would love for a video to get me started into the learning curve!
Thanks!
Hey! Yeah I managed to get things up and running and programmed presets for all
my pedals! I have a dark world pedal coming tomorrow so excited to patch that in too.
Mine thing I did implement is making my first Bank a “homepage” as someone did in this forum. Basically I have:
Bank 1: Home
Preset A: Tap
Preset B: Mercury 7
Preset C: Enzo
Preset D: Echosystem
etc etc so the home page takes me to each bank which is super helpful!
im Gonna start with expression In the next couple of days and hopefully I can really dive into the capabilities of the MC6.
Really appreciate your help, those introductions were priceless. :-D
No worries. I hope things go well. Again, check out the Expression pedal tutorial (expression pedal settings are bank to bank, not patch to patch). Some great info there as well.
Jeremy, thank you so much my friend. If I knew you I’d buy you a beer and some pretzel snacks haha!!
Thats EXACTLY the info I needed. I’m going to try this as soon as I get infront of the pedal board and I’ll reply back if there where any issues!! I think your explanation will be so helpful to people in my position! I agree, there literally no walk throughs like this for Meris setups.
You’ll have to explain expression pedal setup too at some point as I have one and really want that setup with the pedals too.
Cool beans. I will walk you through how I did things and hopefully you have a jumping off point.
If you have not done this already, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the tutorial on the website regarding MC6 Preset Tips and Tricks. A couple invaluable bits there, not Meris specific, but just to help organize your life from the get go. You have the right gear and have it hooked up which seems to be a huge stumbling block for 90% of the internet for some reason?
All four Meris pedals come loaded with 16 Factory presets, which is something I discovered when using a DMC-6. These presets can be engaged and explored by sending PC messages 1-16 from your controller to the pedal itself.
I started by taking a few days and exploring the existing presets for each pedal fairly in-depth. In combination with one another, with expression pedals (a must to get everything out of Meris stuff), with other effects. The best way I found is to, one at a time, set up a couple banks for M7, a couple for Poly etc.
Open the web editor, connect your M7 to the midi box, midi box to the controller, amp and guitar and power up. I set my midi device numbers in the same order that they are in the effects chain. You can set them for whatever you want, but for me, I know my Enzo is first so that is 1, H9 is 2, Polymoon is 3, Nemesis is 4 etc. Just easier to remember. Also, the button actions can be set however you want.
(You can name these however you want, but for example) Head to Bank 1:
Push Preset A on your controller and the bank and preset on the web editor should change to Bank 1,
Preset A Bank Name: Mercury 7 - 1
Short Name: M7Pre1 (Mercury 7 Preset 1)
Toggle Name Engaged (plus change the Toggle Off button to ON and Blink Off to ON)
Msg 1 Action: Press Type
Type: Program Change
Edit (PC = 1 - which will be factory preset 1) (Channel = x - whatever channel you have the M7 to receive midi)
Pos: 1
Msg2 Action: Press
Type: CONTROL Change
Edit: (CC Number = 14 (Bypass on all Meris) (CC Value = 0) (Channel = x - whatever channel you have the M7 to receive midi)
Pos: 2
Save Preset. Controller should say "Success!" Now the preset will engage with one stomp and bypass with a second stomp.
Now repeat steps on buttons B-F, saving after each. The only thing you will change is the program change (PC) number. Preset B is PC = 2, Preset C is PC = 3 etc., all the way up to 16. You may use the hidden buttons but I recommend just starting up in Bank 2 then Bank 3 for the last four. Start Bank 4 as your next Meris pedal.
The ones you really like, give them a proper name that is easier to remember.
Now to save your own:
Find a preset on the M7 you do not really care for and engage that preset. Tweak to taste. Hold the alt button and then hold/press bypass. This will communicate the new Preset to the controller via THAT PC message. Name your new preset and done. I would back up your presets on you computer in case you ever have to factory reset the pedal(s) itself. You will loose your presets.
Thanks for bringing this topic up. These are great pieces of gear and there is serious lack of examples and understanding online.
Hey Jeremy,
I have the Chase midi box and I know how to connect everything and set the Meris pedals up in midi mode but after that I'm a little lost. For example... Lets say I don't have any presets in the Meris pedals saved, but I have my MC6 all synced up and everything ready. Could you describe once I've dialed in a sound I like on the Mercury 7 for example, how I go about recalling that preset sound from the Meris via the MC6? Once I get one underway belt I'll figure everything else out, just need a little push to understand how those first few steps of recalling banks on pedals works etc..??
Thanks so much!!!!
I can help where I can: do you have any specific questions and do you have a midi box (Meris I/O or Disaster Area or Chase Bliss or the like) to connect MC6 to Meris/Emoress/Chase Bliss pedals etc? That is step one.
