Curious to if anyone has had a similar issue to this -
Currently using a Morningstar MC6 (MkI) to control both the Empress ES and Reverb through a Disaster Area MidiBox. I'll set one to channel 1 and the other to a different channel, but only messages sent over channel 1 produce any response. Even when the pedals are set to receive MIDI on any other channel, they only respond to messages over channel 1. What makes this especially problematic is that it prevents individual control of the two pedals as both respond identically to what is sent on channel 1.
Anyone have any ideas to what I could be doing wrong?
Thanks!
Whew! Glad to hear you got it working. It didn’t make sense why it wasn’t since it sounded like you had everything set up properly.
Not sure why, but I updated the firmware on both devices and (almost predictably) they now both work as they should. I may not have ‘fully’ updated them last time I did it.
Thanks again for the help!
The MIDIOX data - first two commands are the ones the devices don’t respond to (and they are set to those respective channels). Third one is the other command that both devices comply with.
Unfortunately I’ve already tried some of these trouble shooting methods, to include a combination of MIDI channels on both devices as well as using MIDIOX to evaluate messages. Here is an example:
I have the Reverb set to Channel 11 (1st red LED on 'Ambient Swell' in advanced config) and the ES set to Channel 6 (first green LED on 'Ambient' in advanced config).
I'll have it send the first two messages at the same time, and if I am reading the output monitor correctly, the MIDI data is being sent on channels 6 and 11 (the CC message is to change the presets). When I do this, neither device complies.
When I have it send a message (MIDIOX appears to confirm it's sent on Channel 1), both devices comply and change to that preset (preset 10 in this example).
I’ll link a snapshot to the MIDIOX data when I’m able, but as this is my first MIDI controller so I could just be reading it incorrectly entirely.
I think this points to the issue being with the devices and not the controller but I wanted to see if anyone had this problem before.
Thanks again!
I used the MC6 with both of those amazing pedals! Didn’t have that issue.
There’s a few points where something could go wrong. First, did you set the ES and Reverb to separate channels in Global Configuration on the pedals themselves?
Second, on the MC6 did you set up the messages to go to separate channels? By default, all midi messages are set to Ch 1. I’ve forgotten to make that distinction myself before. Then I realize that I didn’t change the Midi Ch.
If those are set up correctly, then I’d try using the Midi monitor if I were you to verify what messages are being sent.
