Hi there, quick question.
I'm considering picking up an MC6 + ML5 for my pedalboard. I definitely plan on using it for presets, but I also want to be able to use it in more of a manual mode if needed, specifically to scroll through/bypass & engage my Timeline and H9 – separate from the pedals in the loops. Is there a way of doing that? Perhaps by using some of the additional midi functions/messages?
Sorry if this is obviously explained somewhere, trying to make sure I get my head around this setup! Thanks!
Will do, thank you! I was about to pull the trigger on some Disaster Area stuff since they seem to be a nice blend of MIDI and traditional loopers, but not having a web/software editor seems way too tedious for preset management. Then I found the Morningstar products and loved the idea of having a little more flexibility & space available on top of the board.
Happy to help! Let me know if you need any help setting things up. I used the Disaster Area controllers before which are super intiutive, so I was nervous getting the MC6 which I thought was a little intimidating at first. But the documentation is superb, the web editor is great, and James and Co and Morningstar are super responsive as well! So it doesn't take long for things to click.
But again, if you need help setting things up I'm happy to help where I can!
Damn, I'm sold on this thing. Thanks for the help!
Yes, whatever bank you're on you can send a Strymon Bank Up or Bank Down message to go to the next bank up or down. Or you could go to a specific bank by using a CC + Program Change command to select the bank and preset.
And this doesn't effect any other device as long as you have your MIDI devices set to distinct channels. For example, I have my Strymon Mobius set to channel 3 and my H9 set to channel 4. Even if they have a CC# in common (say CC#80, which selects footswitch A on the Mobius and Bypasses/Engages the H9), it will only effect whichever pedal you have assigned to that MIDI channel. So if I send CC#80 to MIDI channel 3, it will engage footswitch A on the Mobius and leave the H9 alone.
Man that's pretty awesome – thank you! Just to make sure I understand, that can be done regardless of the bank it's currently on, and without affecting any of the current settings of other pedals? I'm new to the MIDI world!
Yes, the MC6 can absolutely do this. In fact, there are dedicated Strymon Bank Up and Bank Down midi types on the MC6. As far as bypassing/engaging the Strymon, you would need to consult the midi table in the Timeline manual. But yeah, you could set up a switch on the MC6 to turn the pedal on and off (it will turn on/off the last active bank [A or B]), or you could set up a switch to specifically toggle the A or B switch.
With the H9, you set up the MIDI commands via the H9 control app, and then you just set up your MC6 to send the appropriate CC message that you have mapped to your H9. So if you set up CC#1 on the H9 to be toggle effect on/off, then set up a swtich on your MC6 to send a value of 127 to CC#1 on your H9.
I use the MC6 with both a Strymon Mobius and Eventide H9. It works wonderfully!
