Hello,
I just received my MC6 in the mail yesterday. I have it connected to my Mac computer and have tried both the web editor and the installed editor (the OSX app). I am having two primary problems.
1) The editor frequently gives me a "Message Checksum failed. Please try again." error. See the screenshot:
2) Neither editor is working correctly. I toggle into "Editor Mode" (as instructed). The controller switches to editor mode. However, when I hit any of the 6 buttons on the controller the right-hand-side of the editor (where it says "Expression" and '1' underneath- toggles from "Preset A" back to "Expression 1" in about .25 seconds.
3) I cannot edit the bank names on the left-side of the editor. As soon as I enter the "Bank Name" text entry field and type a few characters, the editor seems to delete whatever I typed and redisplays the 'saved' Bank Name. The ONLY way I can change bank name is to do it on the pedal itself...
See this video for a demonstration of the problem with the editor. Also, the same problem happens with the web editor OR the installed app:
Please help me with this issue!
Thanks,
Terence
I just wanted to write a follow-up about this issue. James was great to work with and went "above and beyond" to rectify the situation. I was able to get the controller fixed (without having to send it across the ocean) and Morningstar showed great concern for the customer and 'made it right'. I am thankful for their strong support and their solution to this issue. They stood by their product and as such, makes me confident in purchasing the new MIDI looper when it is released!
Well done Morningstar - and specifically James!
Hi Terence, I see the issue. This one went through our checks. You can see that three points are left unsoldered on the board, and that is what is causing the issue. We'll drop you an email to rectify this.
James,
Ok - I have made some progress.
1) If I plug my expression pedal into the Exp jack closest to the USB input then I can calibrate the expression pedal (heel=0; toe=127) and then the editor works as it should.
2) If I plug my expression pedal into the expression jack under the 'D' button (furthest away from the USB pedal), then I cannot calibrate the expression pedal, the MC6 doesn't recognize the expression pedal, and the webeditor doesn't work..it exhibits the same problematic behavior.
Here is a video of the behavior with both of the exp jacks:
SO.. I suspect there may be something with the outside Exp pedal jack.
Photo of the circuit board:
Hi Terence,
Thanks for the photo. What I meant was, unscrew the backplate and send a picture of the circuit board under the back plate.
The editor is likely not the issue here.
If you plug a 1/4 jack into the input, does it still occur?
Also, if you go into the exp edit menu and change the sensitivity to 1, does it help?
The photo of the serial number didn't post...Here it is:
James, 1) I uploaded 2.4.2 as you suggested. Same problem.
2) I did the "Exp edit"/Calibrate option. The values did not seem to be changing although. The LCD was flickering where I assume the value would be changing. Here is a video of me performing the calibration:
3) I also tried the webeditor on a Windows 10 machine to make sure that my Mac wasn't the issue. Same thing. Here again is different video of the issue captured by my iPhone:
Lastly, here is the photo of the back of the controller that lists the serial number: #10281
Thanks James,Terence
Will do. I will try your suggestions and if unsuccessful I will email you a photo as requested.
Thanks Terence, let us know.
If it does not work, could you remove the back plate and send us a photo of the back of the pedal with the serial number?
James, I updated to the 2.5 beta firmware before posting this issue to see if it was firmware related. I can re-upload the 2.4.2 firmware when I get home from work. I will also try #2 in your suggestions and let you know what I see. I will do so when I get home this evening.
Thanks,
Terence
Might be possible. However, if nothing is plugged into the expression jack then the TIP should be grounded and nothing should be sent out.
Could you try this:
1. Re-upload the 2.4.2 firmware and see if the problem still exists
2. Press Switch A+C together to go into Exp edit mode. Press calibrate. Do you see the values shifting on the LCD in this page?
Could there be an issue with the expression jack that is 'reseting' my Patch 'A' (setting it back to 'Expression 1') and my Bank Name back to the saved version?
James, I have nothing plugged into the MC6 other than the USB cable. The same thing is happening with the Bank Name as well. Moving from 'patch' to 'expression' happens in the same 0.25 seconds as the Bank Name 'erasing' whatever I type. So, I type in the "Bank Name" field - for about .025 seconds and then the field gets 'reset' back to the bank name that I saved on the device itself.
Hi Terence,
The pop-up occurs when the data is not transferred correctly to the editor. Its fine if it pops up every now and then. Do you still face this issue? Seems like you managed to get it to work in the video.
From your video, it looks like the MC6 is sending Exp1 data to the editor. Do you have anything plugged into the MC6 Expression Input? If you move the expression pedal, data will be sent to the editor. Could you try plugging your expression pedal out and using the editor?
Best regards,
James
