Hey there,
Just wondering if others have had any issues with the Bank up/down functions on Strymon pedals? I have a Mobius, and I set up a quick bank on the MC6 to go through and quickly "audition" presets on the Mobius.
The Bank up/down works very sporadically. Sometimes it works immediately, and sometimes it doesn't work right away. If it's not working, sometimes switching banks on the MC6 and then going back gets it working right again, and sometimes it doesn't.
Not a huge deal, as this isn't something I would necessarily use during live performances much, but I couldn't get it to work consistently. (I have the Mobius at the end of a chain of midi pedals, etc., so I thought maybe the midi-thru was an issue, but going directly from the MC6 to the Mobius had similar results.)
I'm using the last official firmware - not the most recent beta.
Also, your pedalboard rules!
Hey kabutokan, Thanks a bunch for taking the time to explain that to me. I really appreciate it. I need exactly 8 loops and I want to use the DPC for the same reasons you described but wasn't sure if it could accomplish what I want. Thank you!
Hey Jake,
There's not too much to tell, really. When I was putting this board together, I was debating getting a Boss ES-8, but decided on the DPC-8EZ and MC6 for a few reasons. They each had their advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage (for me) to the ES-8 was the ability to change the order of analog pedals. The big advantage to the route I took (with the DPC-8EZ and MC6) was that I could use the DPC-8EZ to engage/disengage an effect at any time instantly without having to switch banks/modes, etc. I didn't explore the Boss too too much, but I also felt like the MC6 might be more capable as far as midi capabilities, and I definitely love the display on the MC6 - if the Boss had displays above each footswitch, it may have made the decision harder. I basically use the DPC-8EZ as you would any programmable pedal switcher. (The Morningstar switcher wasn't available at the time, but again, having the footswitches on the DPC-8EZ to engage/disengage independent of the midi controller is big for me.) I basically set up song presets that engage combinations of pedals on the DPC-8EZ. I have several midi-capable pedals I don't run through the DPC-8EZ, and I just use the MC6 to engage or disengage them, etc. I use the switches on the DPC-8EZ to engage/disengage pedals whenever I want without going through the MC6. I'll take a picture of my board later on to show you the setup. I'm happy to answer any questions, but like I said, it's pretty straightforward. If I'm super motivated, one of these days I'll throw a video together.
Hey kabudokan,
I would love to learn the details of how you use the DPC-8EZ with the MC6 to control your board. Thank you!
So I seem to have discovered the problem, and it's not anything with the MC6.
(The following is a slightly edited version of a message I sent to DA, which explains what I discovered.)

I have a Disaster Area DPC-8ez I'm using on my board. I'm using the MC6 as the main midi controller.
My midi chain was running through a few things with the DPC-8ez second last, going into the Mobius.
I was having issues with the Mobius (on Midi channel 2) not receiving all the midi messages being sent to it by the MC6. I assumed it was an issue with the MC6, but then I figured out that if I turned a loop on the DPC-8ez on or off (I run it in manual mode and use the MC6 to change presets on it), then certain messages were not getting sent thru to the Mobius.
As soon as I would engage/disengage a loop in the manual mode of the DPC-8ez, it would no longer pass "Bank Up/Down" or CC messages to the Mobius.
Strangely, after this happened if I sent a PC message to the Mobius from the MC6, everything would start working again until I engaged or disengaged another loop in the DPC-8ez.
I rewired and put the DPC-8ez last, and it seems to work fine now. It occurred to me afterward that I should have tried to turn off the Midi send in the DPC-8ez. (I may have done that at some point, but I don't remember.)
I'm not sure if this is caused by an issue with the DPC-8ez send, or if it is some kind of bug.
I saw this message in the DPC-8ez manual, but I'm unclear about what it is sending when switching a loop while in Manual Mode:
"Engaging a loop in manual mode sends a MIDI Continuous Controller message. If MIDI SEND is set to OFF in the power on configuration, then neither Program Change
nor Continuous Controller messages will be sent by the DPC-8EZ. The MIDI input
and output still function and pass messages through whether MIDI SEND is enabled or not, as is the USB MIDI functionality"

Anyway - sorry for the long message, but I figured I'd share what I discovered. It seems like everything is playing nicely now.
Thanks again!
Thanks James. I was playing last night and noticed something else as well.
I did get the PC scroll up/down feature working with the Mobius. (Couldn't get it working through the web interface, but was able to get it going by programming in unit.) I then noticed that it sometimes wouldn't scroll up through programs either. I also had the expression pedal (Exp 2 - a boss ev 5 I think) set to control the speed on the Mobius. When the program wouldn't scroll, if I moved the expression pedal, it would then start scrolling through the PC's again.
I had bought the Mobius used (fairly recently), so I may back up my presets I've created and do a factory reset.
Not sure if I'll have a chance to investigate further today or not. I'm not sure if the same thing happens when trying a Strymon Bank change or not. (Meaning if activating the expression pedal would then allow the bank to change after it had stopped working.)
I'll let you know if I discover anything else in the meantime.
We didn't notice any issues when we implemented the feature. Will do some further testing next week. I don't have a Mobius though, but will test it on the Timeline.
